With the arrival of spring and summer at the door, the temperatures in Alto Adige rise and favor the melting of snows and glaciers which, consequently, enriches the flow of watercourses. In this period of the year, rivers, streams and torrents return to fill their beds and waterfalls also become more lush.
One of the most fascinating aspects of this land is undoubtedly the naturalistic one: splendid panoramic views reveal themselves in all possible excursions.
Merano and Lagundo, for example, offer an infinite choice of paths, from the most relaxing walks, to hikes along the characteristic irrigation channels, or Waalweg, up to the most demanding paths among the peaks of the Tessa Group, the Natural Park that surrounds the municipalities of Merano, Tirolo and Lagundo. It is located at the end of the Brandis irrigation channel path, which leads through vineyards and chestnut trees to the stream of the same name.
Among the other main waterfalls in the area, capable of creating a fresh microclimate ideal on hot summer days, we recommend the one at Fragsburg, which rises above the city of Merano, with its impressive 135 meters in height.
The Rio Eschio, also known as the Rio di Gargazzone, is particularly appreciated for its ten splendid waterfalls. One of these is located not far from the ruins of the Kröll tower and plunges from a rocky spur 40 meters high. It is also the most accessible waterfall with a one-hour excursion from Gargazzone.
In the Val Passiria there are also waterfalls not to be missed: in Saltusio, for example, you will find the Valclava waterfall, while in Moso the Stieber one.
The Parcines Waterfall, on the other hand, with a drop of over 90 meters, is located at the foot of the Tessa Group, and plunges between the rocks creating a climate of particular healthiness, especially recommended for those who suffer from allergies and asthma.
Not to be missed is the Stulles Waterfall, the third highest in Europe, easily reachable from Merano in the direction of Val Passiria and Passo Rombo as far as Moso.
