Starting from Camping Arquin, you can easily reach gardens, castles, museums and outdoor trails to discover South Tyrol through art, history and nature.
The gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle
The gardens of Castel Trauttmansdorff, near Merano, offer numerous panoramic views of the city and the surrounding mountains.
Walking along the trails allows you to observe over 80 botanical environments hosting plants from all over the world.
Inside the castle is the Touriseum, the Provincial Museum of Tourism of South Tyrol, with interactive exhibitions.
Sculpture Trail in Lana
In Lana there is an outdoor art trail that combines nature and contemporary works of art in a walk through paths, gorges and ravines.
The trail, approximately 8 km long, runs mainly along the Brandiswaalweg and continues through the Gaul gorge to the Ländpromenade and the Valsura biotope.
Accompanying hikers, sculptures by international artists that interpret the landscape and its transformations, integrating into the natural context.
Messner Mountain Museum
Mountain museum near Bolzano, conceived by South Tyrolean mountaineer Reinhold Messner to tell the story of the relationship between man and the mountains. Messner calls it “the enchanted mountain” to emphasise that here one can understand how the mountain influences culture, beliefs and the history of mountaineering and alpine tourism.
The exhibitions explore themes such as the geological formation of mountains, their role in myths and religions and the evolution of mountaineering, through objects, images and installations placed in the ancient spaces and towers of the castle.
Ötzi, the Iceman
Ötzi is the famous natural mummy of a man who lived between 3,350 and 3,100 BC, discovered in 1991 in the Ötztal Alps at an altitude of 3,210 metres.
The body is preserved in ice with its original clothing and equipment.
Since 1998 it has been on display at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, where visitors can see the mummy and learn how the Copper Age man lived and what objects he carried with him.
Mondotreno
In the lower Venosta Valley, in the province of Bolzano, Mondotreno is home to the largest miniature railway network in Italy, with detailed models of the landscapes and towns of South Tyrol.
Visitors can watch the trains in operation and the youngest ones have the opportunity to drive the trains themselves.
