The Masi della Muta, for example, scattered on the southern slope of the Tessa Group Nature Park, enjoy a sunny position and a wonderful view of the entire Burgraviato, the Venosta Valley and the surrounding valleys. Starting from the village of Tirolo, you reach your destination in about three hours of walking. For those who want to continue, the Muta peak (2,291 m above sea level – German: Mutspitze) awaits.
Although in German the peak is called “Mut,” meaning “courage,” it doesn’t take much courage to climb to the summit. Indeed, the paths leading to the summit do not present great difficulties or dangerous sections. Even less experienced hikers can reach the summit cross.
To reach the Muta summit: take the Muta di Sopra cable car from Tirolo to the mountain station at an altitude of 1,423 m. From here, continue along path no. 22 which leads to the Mutkopf restaurant. Trail no. 23 then takes you directly to the summit in about 3 hours.
Monte San Vigilio, near Lana, is a small hiking paradise at 1,700 m above sea level and the only area closed to traffic. We take the cable car from Lana to the mountain station. From here we set off on trail no. 34, which takes us to the chairlift station. Our journey finally continues along path no. 9 towards Laghetto Nero. It is an idyllic biotope surrounded by a large reed bed. On the way back to the top station of the Monte San Vigilio cable car, we finally set off on path no. 7.
The Waalweg is a typical South Tyrolean hiking trail that allows you to walk along ancient waterways along hillsides.
The Marlinger Waalweg, in particular, the Marling irrigation channel trail, is the longest in South Tyrol at 12 km. Created 250 years ago, the trail is surrounded by apple orchards and woods, and begins at the Tel Bridge. After a short climb, it continues on stable, flat terrain, making it suitable for all types of hikers. Along the route you can admire the imposing medieval Lebenberg Castle, and you skirt the Marlengo mountain, slightly descending to the village of Lana. The wonderful natural landscape cannot leave you indifferent: here meadows and woods alternate with vineyards and orchards. The view of the Merano basin, the Passiria Valley and the imposing Tessa Group is also spectacular.
